Notes for JAMES BUNTING WRAY:
On this day to wit this 27th of September 1832 personally appeared before me. John H. Wade, a justice of the peace for the County of aforesaid James Ray aged according to his register Seventy-Six years, who from bodily infirmity cannot attend court-who being first duly sworn according to Law doth on this oath make the following declaration in order to obtain benefit of the Act of congress passed June 7th 1832. Said James Ray was in service of the United States under the following named officers and served as in herein stated, to wit. It goes on to say that James was at the lead mines to protect said mines from the Indians and Tories. He was drafted to go out of Bedford County Virginia where he resided. He was under the command of Captain Moses Greer who at this time was a presiding Justice of Franklin County Virginia. He continued in the service until he was discharged. After his return home he was ordered out he believed three times under Captain Isaac Renfro after the Tories in North Carolina and in the mountains where they had sought to secure themselves, and took many of them. He said that being a Whig he was devoted to the cause of independence, and he was ready for every call. He says he believes he served at least eighteen months; some of his tours were Petersburg, Cabin Point, and Sleepy Hole. Nathaniel Claiborne, Congressman, rode horseback to James Wray's home in Franklin County, where he had lived since the War, to get the soilder's declaration for his pension. James recieved his pension of sixty dollars a year begining March 4 1831. He died November 8 1834.

I James Wray Sr. of Franklin County and State of Virginia do hereby make this my last Will and Testament. 1st I desire that all my just debts shall be paid out of my perishableproperty which I may have at my demise .2nd I give all my proberty perishable and not to my wife Mary(in case she should out live me) to her during her natural life. 3rd I give to my two children Jacobus Wray and Elizabeth Wray all my landed estate at the death of my wife, to be devided betwixt the two in the folling way: to Wit, the dividing line to begin at a white oak comes to my land and the line of Isaac Abshire and running down the ridge whith the wagon road to the point of the ridge near the place where Adam Wray formerly has attach smith shop, and between said shop and the field that is. I give all my land lying in the East side of said land to my Daughter Elizabeth Wray after the death of my wife and I give all the land lying in the west of said line to my son Jacobus Wray at the death of my wife to them and to their heirs .4th I give whatever may be left of my perishable property at the death of my wife to the remainder of my children leaving out Jacobus Wray, Elizabeth Wray and Jemima Teel to be equally divided among them after first giving Jemima Teel five dollars which I devise to her., my intention to give the property which may be left at the death of my wife to those of my children who has not been named before/ with the exception of the land. I hereby give the said perishable property to my children Adam Wray, James Wray, Florina, Joanna, Livina, Caleb, Daniel, Birt S., and Preston Wray to be equally devised among them. To this my last will and testament given under hand and seal and this 11th day of March 1834.
